Upper Strawberry Creek

1938

2004

Description:

Plate 577X. Upper Strawberry Creek 1938 – 2004 Viewed southeast across Strawberry Valley, just above Broad Hollow. The foreground has been root-plowed and reseeded with smooth brome, Kentucky bluegrass, and crested wheatgrass. Green and rubber rabbitbrush have invaded the seeding. The low shrubs near the stream in the distance are shrubby cinquefoil. Conifers, primarily spruce and white fir, have increased, while aspen has declined. Aspen at the edge of the meadow regenerated when mule deer numbers were low, but those saplings have since been highlined by increasing numbers of elk and deer (Kay and Bartos 2000).
