Description:

Plate 90. UPPER SEVENMILE AND LOST CREEK VALLEYS: ca. 1930 - 1999 The Mount Terrill Guard Station is in the grove of spruce (Picea sp.) in left-center of photos. The vegetation is very lush despite yearly cattle grazing, and was nearly waist high at the time of the 1999 photo in August. Elderberry (Sambucus sp.) and silver sage (Artemisia cana) appear more abundant in the 1999 photo, but willow (Salix sp.) appears unchanged. Conifers on the distant mountain sides appear to have increased over time while aspen (Populus tremuloides) has declined. The mature spruce (Picea sp.) in the 1999 photo are being killed by bark beetle.
