Plate 91. UPPER NIOTCHE CREEK: 1962 - 1999 The 1962 photo was taken in the late fall when the aspen (Populus tremuloides) was leafless. By 1999 much of the aspen had not regenerated and was invaded by conifers. Sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata) is more abundant in the foreground of the 1999 photo; the dark colored shrub between the photo point and the large boulder is current (Ribes sp.). The spruce (Picea sp.) in the distance in the 1999 photo are being killed by bark beetle.
