Uinta Flat Exclosure

1966

2004

Description:

Plate 585X. Uinta Flat Exclosure 1966 – 2004 Viewed east down the south fence on the Uinta Flat Exclosure. The site was fenced to exclude livestock in 1960. The area both inside and outside the exclosure was root-plowed and reseeded with smooth brome. The area outside the exclosure was grazed by domestic sheep in 2004. Green rabbitbrush is more abundant outside the exclosure. The large ponderosa pine on the right has died. The shrubs at its base in the retake are currants. Bitterbrush is present both inside and outside the exclosure, but the plants outside are heavily browsed by sheep. The exclosure is still functional, but the fence has not been maintained for many years. Western wheatgrass is present both inside and outside the fenced plot. Ponderosa pine has increased in height, but not in numbers.
