Tippets Valley

1961

2006

Description:

Plate 1336X. Tippets Valley 1961 – 2006 Viewed southwest across Tippets Valley. The meadow was root-plowed and reseeded to smooth brome in 1958. In the distance, aspen has declined, while spruce, Douglas fir, ponderosa pine, and white fir have increased. A few aspen stands regenerated 30 years ago when mule deer numbers fell, but not before or since due to excessive ungulate browsing (Kay and Bartos 2000). This is similar to Plate 1112x. The foreground is still mostly smooth brome with silver sage starting to invade.
