Tippets Valley

2005

Description:

Plate 1115X. Tippets Valley 1967 – 2005 Viewed west along line two of the Parker Three-Step Transect in the aspen type at the west end of Tippets Valley. The aspen regenerated 30 years ago when mule deer numbers were low, but not before or since due to repeated ungulate herbivory (Kay and Bartos 2000). Today all the aspen saplings have been highlined and all aspen suckers repeatedly browsed by deer, elk, and cattle. The understory is mostly timothy and smooth brome. Conifers have begun to invade the site. The area was actively being grazed by cattle in 2005.
