Tippets Valley

1967

2005

Description:

Plate 1109X. Tippets Valley 1967 – 2005 Viewed east along the Parker Three-Step Transect inside the Tippets Valley exclosure. The exclosure was built in 1952, but the fence has not been functional for many years. The area inside the old exclosure was heavily grazed by cattle in 2005. Spruce has increased, while aspen has declined. The new aspen stems on the right regenerated 30 years ago when mule deer numbers were low (Kay and Bartos 2000). The foreground is mostly Kentucky bluegrass, timothy, smooth brome, orchard grass, yarrow, and dandelions. The exclosure was functional when the 1967 image made and thus, at the time, the transect had not been grazed by sheep or cattle for 15 years.
