Escalante River Bridge
ca. 1935
2002
Plate 46X
Description:
Plate 46X. Escalante River Bridge ca. 1935-2002 Viewed southeast to the bridge over the Escalante River on Utah Highway 12. The old bridge was recently replaced with a more modern structure. Note how barren the stream channel was in the original and how woody riparian vegetation now hides the new bridge. Retake number two was made from the eastside of the new bridge looking downstream to the cliffs seen in the original. Again, note the abundant riparian vegetation missing in the original. The plants are primarily willows, cottonwoods, and Russian olive. Very little tamarisk (Tamarix spp.) is present.
