Three Forks Pavant Mountains

1905

2000

Description:

Plate 306. THREE FORKS PAVANT MOUNTAINS 1905-2000 Viewed southwest from Hans Ridge across Three Forks to White Pine Peak in the Pavant Mountains. The original camera station could not be reoccupied due to forest growth so the retake was made from the nearest opening. Conifers, primarily Douglas and white fir, have increased markedly. Aspen has increased in height but has not regenerated due to repeated browsing. Pinyon, juniper, oakbrush, and curlleaf mountain mahogany have all increased, as would be expected in the absence of fire. Many of the Douglas fir in the original photo have now been killed by insects and disease.
