Description:

Plate 1178X. The Great Arch 1928 – 2006 Viewed east up Pine Creek to The Great Arch in Zion National Park. The photopoint is on Utah Highway 9 just west of Carl’s Bend (Garate 1989). The original image was made shortly after road construction began - - note the dump trucks and loading shovel. Road-cuts and fills have naturally revegetated. Woody species appear to have increased including pinyon, juniper, turbinella oak, and Utah serviceberry. Cottonwoods appear to have increased along Pine Creek.
