Spring Creek Bench

1936

2004

Description:

Plate 827X. Spring Creek Bench 1936 – 2004 Viewed northwest on Spring Creek Bench south of Enterprise, Utah. In 1936, four photographs were taken to document range conditions in the area. Three inside a fenced Forest Service administration site, which had been moderately grazed for 30 years, and one, heavily grazed site adjacent to the fenced pasture. Plate 827x was taken inside the fenced pasture and shows how native grasses and shrubs had recovered under moderate grazing - - compare this 1936 image with that of the adjacent heavily grazed site - -see Plate 826x. Since that time however, the fence has been removed and the area reseeded with crested and intermediate wheatgrass. Pinyon and juniper have increased. Shrubs include mountain big sage, bitterbrush, and snakeweed. The area is used by cattle and wintering mule deer.
