Description:

Plate 1454X. Spendlove Knoll 1957 – 2007 Viewed west from the top of Spendlove Knoll across Cave Valley with Smith Mesa and the Pine Valley Mountains in the distance. The original photopoint is now blocked by woody vegetation, so the retake was made from the nearest open area. The camera station is just outside the boundary of Zion National Park. Pinyon and juniper have increased except on Smith Mesa where additional fields have been cleared. Oak and other mountain brush species have increased in Cave Valley as has sagebrush, especially on abandoned agricultural lands.
