Description:

Plate 179X. Showalter Bench 1951 - 2003 Viewed west-northwest to Casto Peak (9,580 ft.). The foreground in the original photograph had just been treated with a case cornstalk shredder to eliminate sagebrush. The area was subsequently sprayed with 2, 4-D and 2, 4, 5-T to kill rabbitbrush prior to being reseeded with crested wheatgrass. Today, rubber rabbitbrush has returned and sagebrush is also slowly reinvading the site. Pinyon and juniper have increased in the distance.
