Scout Lake

1935

2002

Description:

Plate 14X. Scout Lake 1935-2002 Viewed southwest across Scout Lake on the eastside of Boulder Mountain. The first retake was made from the original camera station and shows how the lake level has dropped 4 to 5 feet due to the extended drought. A few aspen have regenerated at the site and now block the more distant view of Boulder Top, so a second retake was made from the lake shore. Across the lake, aspen has declined, while conifers, primarily spruce have increased. Part of the distant slope was prescribe-burned by the Forest Service in 1997 - - note the scattered, fire-killed trees.
