Sargent Lake

1919

1999

Description:

Plate 56. SARGENT LAKE: 1919 - 1999 This area on Sargent Mountain was grazed heavily in 1919 (also see Plates 46 - 49, and 47). Note the heavy browsing and hedged appearance of serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia) and oak brush (Quercus gambelii) on the hillside above the lake. By 1999 grasses were more abundant and sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata) had increased even though the area was prescribe burned sometime in the 1980's. Conifers are more apparent in the 1999 photo.
