Description:

Plate 762X. Santa Clara River 1918 – 2004 Viewed southeast up the Santa Clara River to the Pine Valley Mountains. This area is above Pine Valley Reservoir and today is a Forest Service campground. Conifers now block the original photopoint so the retake was made from the nearest open area. White fir, ponderosa pine, spruce, pinyon, juniper, oakbrush, and mountain brush have all increased setting the stage for high intensity wildfires. Willows and river birch have declined along the river, as conifers have increased.
