Description:

Plate 1181X. Pine Creek 1928 – 2006 Viewed south across Pine Creek in Zion National Park. The original photograph shows the tramway that was built to facilitate construction of the East Entrance Road (Utah Highway 9) and the Zion Tunnel (Garate 1989). A single-seeded ash and a juniper now block the original camera station, which is immediately on top of the tram anchor, so the retake was made from the nearest open area approXimately 35 feet to the right (west). Cottonwood and boX elder have increased along Pine Creek and at the spring above the road-cut. Pinyon, juniper, and turbinella oak have increased, as has single-seeded ash, Utah serviceberry, and oakbrush. The tramsite has naturally revegetated.
