Plate 428X. Paria River 1932 – 2004 Viewed northeast across the Paria River above Cannonville, UT. Cottonwoods and other woody riparian vegetation have increased dramatically despite yearly livestock grazing. The river channel has narrowed and stabilized. The foreground is now an irrigated alfalfa field. Most of the area in the photographs is private property. Pinyon and juniper have increased on the toe of the slope below the distant cliff.
