Lowder Creek

1945

2005

Description:

Plate 1149X. Lowder Creek 1945 – 2005 Viewed northwest across Lowder Creek. There was an active beaver dam on the site in 1945, but today the area is a wet meadow. Beaver-cut aspen and willows would have resprouted, but that regrowth was repeatedly browsed by livestock until those plants were eliminated. A few short willows were present in 2005. In general, aspen has declined, while conifers have increased. Many older spruce, though, were recently killed by insects and disease. The area was actively being grazed by cattle in 2005.
