Lightning Bench

2003

Description:

Plate 193X. Lightning Bench 1952 - 2003 Viewed north-northwest on the bench between Lightning Draw and Berry Spring Creek. Casto Peak (9,580 ft.) is on the right skyline. The area was root-plowed and reseeded by the Forest Service to improve range conditions. Sagebrush has reinvaded the area but many of those plants have been killed by the recent drought. Green rabbitbrush is also present, as is needle and thread grass. Pinyon, juniper, and ponderosa pine have increased on the distant hillsides and draws.
