Dairy Canyon Sawmill

1915

2005

Description:

Plate 889X. Dairy Canyon Sawmill 1915 – 2005 Viewed north to the old sawmill at the mouth of Dairy Canyon. Stout Canyon is on the right and Dairy Canyon is on the left. Willows, cottonwoods, river birch, and ponderosa pine now block the original view, so the retake was made from the nearest open area. The old sawmill was water-powered - - note the flume leading to the actual mill. In addition, the initial image was apparently made when the weather was below freezing because long columns of ice had formed below the flume. Woody riparian vegetation has increased, as have ponderosa pine, pinyon, juniper, and true mountain mahogany.
