Plate 973X. Assay Bench 1961 – 2005 Viewed northeast from Assay Bench to Little Mountain. Prior to the initial image, the area in the foreground was root-plowed and reseeded to improve range conditions - - see Plates 970x, 971x, and 972x. Pinyon, juniper, ponderosa pine, and oakbrush have increased on Little Mountain. Mountain big sage and bitterbrush have begun to reinvade the seeded area, which is mostly smooth brome. Native needle and thread is also present. The area was actively being grazed by cattle in 2005.
