Description:

Plate 962X. Assay Bench 1967 – 2005 Viewed east along line two of the Parker Three-Step Transect outside the Assay Bench exclosure - - see Plates 959x, 960x, and 961x. The area in the foreground has not been treated and is dominated by mountain big sage, bitterbrush, needle and thread, Stipa spp., and Poa spp., all native species. The few taller shrubs are Utah serviceberry and currants. The area is grazed by cattle, elk, and deer. Pinyon, juniper, and ponderosa pine have increased in the distance - - except on parts of the ridge that were overrun by the Unita Flats Wildfire in 1989 (photo left-center).
