Ultimate Gardening GuideUtah State University Extension recently released “The Ultimate Gardening Guide,” a book that provides gardeners of all levels with research-backed answers to fruit and vegetable gardening questions. Topics addressed include garden layout and planting, common soil problems, weed control, when to plant outside, fall-time garden turn down, harvest, storage of vegetables and fruits and others.

Authors Shawn Olsen, Katie Wagner and Dan Drost are all USU Extension horticulturists who have conducted extensive research and demonstration projects on fruit and vegetable production in Utah.

Olsen said the book is easy to use and provides a bounty of tips and tricks.

“You are guaranteed a green thumb, even if you’ve never sown a seed before,” he said. “The guide addresses how to maximize space, keep plants thriving and save time and money while planting your way to the garden you’ve dreamed of. Also included are unique resources including the average last spring frost dates for each county in Utah and suggested vegetable planting dates.”

Book cost is $19.95 and is available at cedarfort.com, amazon.com and extension.cart.usu.edu.
