USU Extension Hosts Orchard Estate and Transition Planning Workshop

Utah State University Extension hosts an Orchard Estate and Transition Planning Workshop Dec. 14 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Santaquin City Government Offices, 275 West Main Street in Santaquin.

The two-day workshop is intended for owners, operators and successors of orchards or farming and ranching operations who are planning to transition their operation to successors. Instructors include USU Extension faculty as well as local attorneys and mediators.

Workshop topics include family and business visioning and communication, goal setting, business succession and management transfer plans, as well as estate planning tools, issues and considerations.

According to Kynda Curtis, USU Extension food and agricultural marketing specialist and workshop organizer, the workshop will provide farming families the opportunity to explore options and processes for transitioning their farm or ranch to the next generation or other successor.

“This workshop provides the setting, instructors and resources to stimulate conversations farm families should have when considering a multiple-generation business,” she said.

The workshop is sponsored by USU Extension, the USDA Farm Service Agency and the Utah Farm Bureau Federation.
