The Utah State University Extension Ogden Botanical Gardens announces the dedication of the Vic Robite Rose Garden on Thursday, June 6, at 6 p.m. at the Ogden Botanical Gardens. Robite has cared for the gardens’ roses for 30 years.

The event will feature speeches from community leaders, including the Ogden mayor, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live music, complimentary Aggie ice cream, and an open house for Robite’s supporters. The event is free and open to the public.

Robite’s love for roses began in his childhood in the Philippines, where he helped his mother raise and sell the flowers. After moving to Ogden and graduating from the USU Extension Master Gardener program, he was asked to care for the Ogden Botanical Gardens’ roses in 1994. Since then, he has devoted countless hours to nurturing them with passion and expertise.

“Vic’s dedication to the roses is truly inspiring,” said Nate Staker, Ogden Botanical Gardens manager. “His commitment and love for these flowers have created a lasting legacy in our community.”

Robite’s wife, Connie, and their seven children have supported his work throughout the years. Despite his full-time employment and coaching soccer for his children, Robite always found time to tend to the gardens as well as his large vegetable and flower garden at home.

In addition to honoring Robite, the event aims to raise $6,000 for the rose garden’s upkeep and improvements. Donations of any amount are welcome, and contributions of $2,000 or more will be recognized with the donor’s name engraved on Robite’s dedication stone at the garden. Secure donations can be made at the Ogden Botanical Gardens Donation Page.
