  • An mix of plenaries, panels, and short presentations from academics/scientists and outdoor recreation planners and managers.
  • Guided field trips to observe successes and challenges in managing outdoor recreation around Moab.

October 16: Collaboratively Creating a Path Forward for Outdoor Recreation Management and Gateway Community Planning

  • Facilitated workshop sessions on key issues defining outdoor recreation and gateway communities in the American West. The goals of the workshop sessions are to identify ways managers and planners have addressed, or can address, the emerging challenges faced by outdoor recreation managers, gateway community planners, state and local officials, and others who value outdoor recreation in the West. In short — how can research help us address pressing management and planning challenges, and how are these challenges being overcome in the field?

October 17-18: The Current State of Gateway Community Planning

  • An mix of plenaries, panels, and short presentations from academics/scientists and gateway community planners.
  • Guided field trips to observe successes and challenges in addressing housing, transportation, and other critical issues in and around Moab.

October 19: Closing Reception

  • An off-site evening reception in downtown Moab.
