School-Based Food Waste Audits
Discover practical resources to take action on food waste in local schools. Whether you're a concerned parent or community member looking for a place to start, or a staff member or stakeholder ready to measure and reduce waste, you'll find resource sheets, audit materials, and intervention tools to guide the way.
Curriculum and Experiential Activities for the Classroom
The NourishSmart curriculum is broken down into four lessons that can be taught according to the interests of the class and can be adjusted for time and resources. Lesson topics include understanding where food comes from, how food waste impacts the environment, and methods to reduce food waste in school and home environments. Additional activities and resources are also included.
Opportunities for Youth
Bring food waste education to life for kids and teens. The Wasteless Recipes Playlist features videos where youth can watch and cook recipes that creatively use parts of food people typically throw away. Green Apron Cook-Alongs are offered virtually and in-person and are a cooking series where participants build kitchen skills while learning practical food waste tips. And through 4-H Food Waste Camp Sessions, kids explore where their food comes from, what's really lost when food is wasted, and hands-on skills like composting and regrowing food from scraps.
