Ongoing Projects:
  • Bridging the Food Insecurity Gap - access to food and assistance, access to culturally appropriate foods, summer food needs for kids
  • Increasing Access to Fresh Produce - fresh produce food drives to benefit food pantries and affordable housing communities, getting SNAP accepted at farmers' markets and farm stands
  • Increase Community Awareness - Illustrate the need in Davis County to residents and representatives, communicate need of the area to the COG, share ways the community can help, and share the resources available so those in need can use them.

Mountainlands Food Access Committee
Objectives:

The Mountainlands Food Access Committee is a collaboration between food assistance partners in Utah, Summit, and Wasatch Counties. The mission of this Committee is to advise and connect food programs on recommended strategies and strengthen collaborative work on food access in the region, moving forward to shared goals.

Ongoing Projects:  
  • Resident Advisory Workgroup: conducting surveys at local food pantries and holding focus groups to learn more about the barriers faced and how the pantry can help overcome them
  • WhatsApp Community for food assistance providers in development to help partners troubleshoot challenges, collaborate on events and grant activities, and celebrate successes
  • Development of a two-year action plan for 2026-2027 to address food assistance needs in the region

Salt Lake City Food Policy Council (Currently Inactive)
Objectives:

Identify policy and program opportunities and make recommendation to the City of Salt Lake on how to create a more equitable, sustainable, and resilient community food system.
 
  1. Improve access to healthy, affordable, and culturally appropriate food for all Salt Lake residents
  2. Advance racial justice and social equity in the food system
  3. Reduce food waste
  4. Grow more food locally by supporting backyard and community gardening, expanding urban farming, and preserving regional farmland
  5. Reduce the climate and ecological impact of our food system
  6. Strengthen SLC’s food economy by supporting local farmers, food workers, and food entrepreneurs
