We often don’t think of much other than getting through the first date, but once you’re there, then what? A first date mostly consists of getting to know one another and looking for a connection. It’s also good to get a sense of the other’s career goals or life ambitions. All of these things you can do while also creating a safe environment to talk and deepen the connection.  

So, here are 23 date ideas to help move things along and have fun at the same time!  

Cook Together 

There are many possible bonds that can be formed when cooking. Put your kitchen chemistry to the test and plan a meal you would both like to cook together! You never know how much fun you’ll have working together.  

Art Gallery Tour 

Art galleries can be great for a second date because it helps to show one another unique interests you might have! It is great to have a quiet conversation while looking at the exhibits.  

Paint Night

Let your creative side take form and have a paint night! You could do anything from watercolors to acrylics. For a fun twist, have each person start their own piece and then switch every 10 minutes to add an element of surprise and creativity. 

Pizza & Picnic 

Head to your favorite pizza parlor and get a box to go. Next, visit a park nearby or public area where you can lay out a picnic blanket and enjoy your pizza. There’s nothing quite like a nice evening picnic with yummy pizza and good company! 

Attend A Concert Series or Live Music  

If you or your date has an interest in music, finding live music near you would be a great second date idea! Over summers, there are usually many concert series happening in your area. No matter how physically fit you or your date might be, attending a workout class together can always be fun. Hop online and look up classes near you! 

Pickleball 

Spending the day or evening playing pickleball can be a great activity to see each other’s competitive side more! It is also great to see how you may or may not work together as a team.

Get out your drink recipes and have a fun night in creating cocktails or mocktails! Who doesn’t love a little creative drink while spending time with your date and getting to know them!

If you’ve never gone mini golfing before then now is the time! It is a great option for a chill date night but still gives you a little activity to do, and it’s not too expensive.

There isn’t much else that can beat a good ol’ dinner and movie for date night. Find a movie that the both of you haven’t seen and are interested in and grab some dinner beforehand! Debriefing after the movie is always the best part.

Hiking 

Hiking may not be for everyone, but if you have the slightest thought that it might be fun, go for it! Being outside is so refreshing and good for the soul. Hiking on a second date can also give you an idea for what the other person likes to do in their free time.

There are many online game options to create a trivia night! You might even be able to find a place near you who holds trivia night events. Grab your date and get your brains working together!  

Bookstore 

Hitting the bookstore on a second date is never a bad idea. If you don’t happen to have a bookstore near you, go to the local library. Talk about the kind of books you both like to read, and maybe purchase a book that you can read together.  

B for D 

B for D, or Breakfast for Dinner is a fun twist on a dinner date or possible night in. Impress your date with your cooking skills and share a love for food and breakfast, because who doesn’t? 

Drive-in Movie 

Now, when was the last time you’ve been to a drive-in movie? Do some research online and find a location near you. Pick up some yummy treats and get all the blankets you own to have a fun experience together! 

Living Room Picnic 

Not in the mood to go out for a date? Or maybe you really want to have a picnic but the weather just isn’t cooperating. No worries, because you can still do one inside! Move around some furniture and put out a blanket with some pillows.  

Thrift Store 

If you enjoy a good thrift haul, taking your date thrifting is not only a fun activity but can help with getting to know one another better. Walk through the store together or separate, and go over the fun things you found! 

Tie-dye 

Tie-dye for a second date is something creative that will result in an item of memorabilia for each person. Plus, there are so many different items you could possibly tie-dye, it doesn’t need to be a t-shirt.
