Are the leaf edges smooth (no teeth); and the leaves, young twigs, and small, olive-like fruit covered with silvery scales; with thorns often present? Clue: these are not native to Logan Canyon, but have seeded naturally in the lower part of the canyon. It is a Russian-olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia), not a true olive.
