Is the fruit a blue-black berry held in flat-topped bunches with sweet, juicy flesh; the leaves with 5 to 9 leaflets; and the flowers are yellow-white? Clue: this often does not reach tree size. It is a blue elder or blueberry elder (Sambucus cerulea).
