Growing Water Smart workshops are part of Phase 2 – Collaborative Implementation of Advancing the Integration of Water and Land Planning Activities of Municipalities and Counties Across the State of Utah. Using a Utah-focused curriculum developed by Drs. Joanna Ender-Wada and Kelly Kopp of the Center for Water Efficient Landscaping (CWEL) at USU, the facilitated workshops provide collaborative opportunities, policy tools, technical resources, and assistance for participating communities seeking to strengthen their water security in the face of extended drought, climate change, and growing populations and economies. The workshop takes community teams, ideally made up of seven to ten individuals, through structured sessions with goal-oriented collaborative action planning. Growing Water Smart offers an opportunity to learn from peers and experts about the challenges and opportunities of achieving a secure water future. Participating teams spend much of their time defining their water resilience goals and a path to attain them. Teams develop action plans on behalf of their communities and commit to post-workshop activities to advance those action plans.
