Utah Native Plants for the Landscape: Single-leaf Ash

Single-leaf ash (Fraxinus anomala) has great potential for use in water-wise landscapes as a small patio or screening tree.

It is named after the fact that it is the only species in the genus that does not have compound leaves, though under lush growing conditions, it may develop compound leaves.

Single-leaf ash is a tough plant that is adapted to arid environments and can survive without supplemental irrigation once established.

Though slow-growing, its brilliant yellow fall color, along with its small leaves and compact habit make it a desirable landscape tree.
