    Permeable Pavement

    WHAT IS PERMEABLE PAVEMENT?

While impervious surfaces let stormwater flow off of them, permeable pavements allow water to penetrate through the surface. This lets water infiltrate into the ground, being treated along the way and/or retained as groundwater. These surfaces include porous asphalt and concrete, interlocking pavers, and gravel, as well as others. Many are resistant to breakage problems from freezing, and have particular benefit in our area by letting snowmelt filter down instead of forming ice on the surface.
