When selecting trees and shrubs for the St. George area keep in mind that the humidity is quite low year-round and Summer temperature will reach 100 degrees in June, July and August. Trees such as Mesquite, Desert Willow and Chitalpa are well adapted to these desert conditions. There are many other trees and shrubs that can be grown if the right conditions are provided. Soil should be amended with organic matter for all but the toughest desert plants.
