STEM Contests - Become a Champion with 4-H

STEM contests are designed to provide an opportunity for 4-H youth to showcase the knowledge and skills they have gained through participation in the 4-H program. 


STEM Bowl
STEM Bee is a quiz bowl type competition where youth demonstrate their knowledge of STEM related subject matter in a competitive setting where attitudes of friendliness and fairness prevail.

Digital Arts Competition
The Digital Arts Competition is an avenue for youth to demonstrate the knowledge and skills gained through 4-H program participation in a competitive setting. Areas of competition include: 
- Unedited Photography
- Edited Photography
- Story Boards
-Filmmaking (standard 30 hour shoot)
- 2D Digital Arts
- 3D Digital Arts

March 26th - 27th - 30 Hour Film Shoot

Game Design Challenge
The Game Design Challenge is an opportunity for youth to expand their horizons and use their creativity and imagination to create something great! Throughout the challenge youth use the design process to develop a board game.

The 2022-23 contest opens October 1, 2022.  Complete rules are available below.  Youth must register to participate.
 
Pixelations
The Pixelation competition provides youth with an opportunity to take a creative craft skill they love, use computational and engineering design methods, and turn in into a pixeled project. Possible projects include perler beads, quilting, cross stitch, etc.

Envirothon
The Envirothon contest is an opportunity for youth to combine their knowledge of outdoor skills and education with science.
Youth compete on teams and participate in a variety of stations including water science, soil quality, etc.

The STEM Public Speaking contest provides an opportunity for youth to demonstrate their knowledge of STEM related subject matter while improving their public speaking skills. This is a competitive contest where attitudes of friendliness and fairness prevail. It is an educational experience for participants and spectators, and showcases a variety of skills.

National Contest (National Western Roundup): Grades 9 - 12

The STEM Demonstration contest provides an opportunity for youth  to demonstrate their knowledge of STEM related subject matter while improving their public speaking skills. This is a competitive contest where attitudes of friendliness and fairness prevail. It is an educational experience for participants and spectators, and showcases a variety of skills.

Youth Age Divisions: 

Utah 4-H Age Divisions are based on a child’s school grade.

  • *Cloverbud 4-H Members Kindergarten through 2nd Grade 
  • *Junior 4-H Members 3rd through 5th Grade
  • Intermediate 4-H Members 6th through 8th Grade
  • Senior 4-H Members 9th through 12th Grade 

Youth who are homeschooled will follow the Utah State Board of Education criteria for grade placement based on age and should enroll in the grade based upon the USBE criteria for their age as of September 1, 2020. 

  • *Cloverbud 4-H Members Ages 5 through 7
  • *Junior 4-H Members Ages 8 through 10 
  • Intermediate 4-H Members Ages 11through 13
  • Senior 4-H Members Ages 14 through 18

*Youth MUST be age 8 AND in 3rd grade to participate in large animal, shooting sports, and ATV projects and activities. Youth turning 8 AND in 3rd grade may participate after their 8th birthday during the 4-H year. Please note that youth must turn 8 by the ownership deadline (100 days prior to the show for cattle, 60 days prior to the show for sheep, goats, and hogs) to participate in the horse and livestock program.
