Western chorus frogs are found throughout much of Utah. They are usually out at night so you may not see them but you can hear them calling on warm nights from late winter through the fall. Even though they are small (less than 2 inches) they have a big voice.
Western chorus frogs lay their eggs in slow and standing water. They are often found in temporary water bodies that don’t have fish, because the fish love to eat the eggs and tadpoles. Birds, snakes and many mammals also like to eat these frogs.
Chorus frogs are also important as predators, helping to control insect and spider populations near ponds and other water.
