When oxygen dissolves in water, the oxygen molecules must fit in between the water molecules, which is a tight squeeze!  In fact, you can only fit about 10 oxygen molecules for every million water molecules  (the air you breathe has about 200,000 oxygen molecules for every million air molecules). 

Because there's not a lot of oxygen in water, fish and other animals need to be pretty clever at how they get the oxygen.
