Dissolved oxygen measures how many oxygen molecules are actually interspersed between the water molecules. Most aquatic animals must use dissolved oxygen rather than breathing oxygen in the air (which is what's in a bubble). The amount of dissolved oxygen also affects many chemical reactions in the water. Dissolved oxygen is measured using a multi-sensor probe.
