    Create an Active Winter

    Dad exercising with kids.

It can be challenging to be active in the winter months.

It may be cold and snowy. There is less sunlight and it gets dark early. For some people, poor air-quality may keep them indoors. It can require a bit of creativity to maintain or begin an active lifestyle this time of year. Below are some tips that can help you be active this winter.  For even more information check out this printable

    Embrace the season (snowflake icon).

    Embrace the Season

Dress for the conditions and get outdoors.  There are many winter sports and activities that can be fun for the whole family: sledding, hiking, ice skating, building a snowman, making snow angels, etc.

    Keep it indoors (house icon).

    Warm-Up Indoors

Not up for going out?  Bad air day keeping you indoors? There are many ways to be active indoors.  Workout in your living room, speed walk around a local store or mall, take the stairs instead of the elevator.

    Make it social (people).

    Make It Social

Feel like you don't have enough time to connect with your kids?  Has it been a long time since you have spent time with your best friend?  Be active together.  You can walk and talk, play a game or sport, or have a friendly competition.

    Keep It Fun

It is always easier to maintain a healthy habit if you enjoy doing it.  Find a way to be active that works for you.  Try out dancing, play with your kids at the playground (or at home), or keep it exciting with a new workout each week.
