FAQs | Food Safety Managers Certificate Program

My health inspector gave me __ days to get certified. How long will it take for me to become certified?

You need to schedule an appointment to take the exam. Call your local extension office as soon as you can to schedule the appointment. The course will take approximately 8 hours to study the material. The exam takes approximately one hour to complete the 4 sections. Once you have passed the exam, you are certified. You will have the opportunity to print a temporary certificate once you have passed the exams. We have asked that the Utah Health inspectors give you at least 7 days to get the certificate exam completed. If you wait 6 days to contact us, we cannot help you. We can contact your inspector directly if needed to confirm you passed.

What are the Username and password? Do I need them if I am just taking the exam?

The Username and password are needed to access both the online course and the exam. You receive your certification by passing the exam. The username and password allows us to keep track of who has passed the exams and is certified.

Do I have to take a Food Safety Manager Course to take the exam?

No. You can attempt the exam without taking any course. However, it is not recommended.

What browser should I use to view the online course?

We highly recommend that you use Firefox to view the online course and to take the exam, and we highly recommend that you use a desktop computer to view the course. Some features may not function properly in other browsers or on a mobile device.

Do I need an email account to register for the course?

Yes, the online course and exams are tracked using an email account. You can find many free email services. Contact a local IT Support professional or a friend for assistance with signing up for an email account.

Where are the course and exam located?

They are found at extension.learn.usu.edu. You will register and pay for the course and exams at that website.

I registered and never received a confirmation email.
