Become a Volunteer
Individual Opportunities
The first step to becoming an individual volunteer is to attend one of our one-hour volunteer orientations, where you'll discover more about USU Equine Experience and the volunteer roles available. No prior horse experience is necessary!
-
Program volunteers assist by grooming and tacking horses, supporting clients during lessons and treatments, leading horses, and putting away tack afterwards. Program volunteers may also have opportunities to engage in herd conditioning, event preparation, and much more!
-
We encourage a weekly commitment of at least six months, with shifts available from 7am-5:30pm Monday to Friday. A typical shift is two hours long, however we understand the need for students to volunteer between classes and can be flexible on our shift duration if need be.
-
To work directly with clients and horses, volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Limited opportunities are available for those under 16, provided they are accompanied by an adult guardian at all times. Anyone 18 years of age or older who volunteer independently must undergo a criminal background check.
