1. Diagnose
A. Identify the weed(s) located
in the site.
B. Understand the biology (life
cycle, method of propagation, and present life stage).
C. Determine the extent of the
problem. How wide spread is the infestation, how dense are
the
weeds, and how long do the seeds remain viable (longevity
of the project).
2. Objective
A. Decide what your objective
is for controlling the weeds in question.
3. Control
A. List all of the control methods
that are effective against the weed.
B. Eliminate those methods that
are not practical due to site conditions and feasibility (availability
of tools and people, economics).
C. Rank the control methods
from best to worst.
D. Implement a weed management
plan using the control method(s) (from C.)
4. Follow up
A. Assess the effectiveness
of the control
B. Continue control for the
required time.
