Purple Loosestrife

Lythrum salicaria
Distinguishing Features

Size: Grows 1.5 to 10 feet tall, usually with its base in or very near water.
Flower: One inch in diameter, magenta to pink-white in color, and have five to seven wrinkled petals. They are arranged in long 2 to 36 inch clusters (racemes) along the upper stalk end.
Leaves: Four inches long or less, lance-shaped and notched at the base, and are attached to the stalks without stems.
Other: Stems are four to eight-sided, smooth or hairy, and multi-branched.
