Weber County 4-H Newsletter
October 2023
Happy Fall!
I love the changing of seasons. Saying goodbye to the old and welcoming the new as the circle of life continues. Here at the 4-H office we have had many changes as well. We have started the new 4-H year and we are excited to see all the wonderful things that will be happening.
We are looking forward to having all of the 4-H families join us at our 4-H Kickoff Event at The Hunt Farms on October 9th (see the flyer for more information). Achievement Night is fast approaching and we are hoping that this will be a fun and meaningful experience for everyone as well. Mark your calendars for November 3rd and more information will be coming.
Thanks, being part of our 4-H family. The 4-H Mission statement states that we help create “A world in which youth and adults learn, grow and work together for positive change.” Thanks for being a part of this and making a difference.
Sincerely,
David Widdison

Jr. Livestock Education Tests
Jr. Livestock Education Tests
From October through July, Weber County 4-H members in grades 3-12 can compete in the Livestock Education Tests. To participate, youth must be enrolled in 4-H (and enrollment fees paid). 4-H members can take the test online in ZSuite: https://4h.zsuite.org/. (Click on “Events” to find the current months test).
Awards are given for each species in each division.
Each month's tests are prepared for all four species: beef, sheep, swine, and goats.
Each month will focus on a different chapter or two of the handbooks.
Youth can select the test for the species they are studying. They do not have to be raising that species to participate in the test. You can compete in all 4 project areas.
The tests are a combination of true/false, multiple choice, and fill-in-the-blank.
All the questions for the test come from the Ohio State University Resource manuals, which are available for purchase from the 4-H office. The cost per book is about $30 depending on the species.
This is an open book test with a time limit of 30 minutes to complete each test. Tests will close the last day of each month.
Congratulations to the following youth who won the overall high score on the 2022-2023 Livestock Education Tests:
