By Lisa Lewis
June 12, 2008 kicked off the first ever 4-H Soccer Camp in Wayne County.
The camp has been created under the direction of Utah State University FSC Agent, Lisa Lewis and the 4-H Soccer Committee that includes Angie Crompton, Cari Pettit, Joyce Salter, Melanie Oyler and teen representative, Alexander Salter. Over 20 adults and 20 teens volunteered to coach/instruct camp participants. They’ve spent hours of time devoted to the program learning fundamental soccer skills drills and the rules and regulations of the game.

Over 87 children ages 4-12 are participating in the 5 week soccer camp. Soccer training sessions last one hour. Skills taught vary with age and ability. Each adult volunteer coach/instructor has one or more 4-H Teenleader coach assisting with the soccer skills instruction. The 4-H Teenleaders have also volunteered their time for training and coaching.
Soccer camps will continue Thursday evenings through July 17th at the Wayne County Middle School. Children 4 to 7 years start at 5pm; ages 8 to 12 start at 6:30 pm. Bring a lawn chair and come watch! If you are interested in participating in or volunteering with 4-H soccer, or any other Wayne County Extension/4H event, feel free to contact Lisa Lewis at 435-836-1312, or lisa.lewis@usu.edu.
** The Extension Office would like to thank the many Wayne County community members and businesses who have donated time and materials to make this soccer camp possible. You have made a positive difference in the lives of our youth!
