Starfest and SET Squad Fun

The Second Annual Heritage Starfest was a great way for youth and their families to learn about astronomy.

The festival included science family activities, a 5K night fun walk/run/bike event, night sky viewing through telescopes, an award-winning documentary film, dark skies programs, campfire storytelling, vendors, and much more.

Activities included a solar system game played with balls and paper plates.

The active game got everyone moving while learning about astronomy.

Children played a variety of astronomy table-top games.

The new 4-H iPad was a wonderful tool for sharing the constellations. The iPad App Starwalk was used during the night walk.

Volunteers cut out Star Wheels and showed others how to identify constellations in the night sky.

Linton Rohr shared his wonderful meteorite collection with the 4-H youth.

In the evening, telescopes were set up in the parking lot of the Wayne County Community Center. The evening began with overcast skies, but ended up with clear viewing by dark. Volunteers shared their expertise.

Young people were able to see Jupiter and four of its planets, the Andromeda galaxy, and much more!
