    Protect Your Water

Learn about the laws, influences and what you can do to protect your water.

Two types of water pollution - point source and nonpoint source.  Point source pollution comes from a pipe or other conduit from specific discharges such as an industry or waste water treatment plant.  Nonpoint source pollution comes from a wide variety of landscapes where runoff from the land picks up and carries pollutants to water bodies.

While the Clean Water Act regulates the point source pollution, nonpoint source pollution requires community action and is managed in Utah on a voluntary basis.  The government and partners help private citizens reduce the nonpoint source pollution through incentives, technical support and education.
