A River Runs Through Us is a hands-on educational volunteer monitoring program geared toward teachers and their students. With the aid of detailed manuals, teachers lead their students toward an understanding of a watershed functions and structure, as well as learning the specifics of sampling freshwater systems.
Data is collected in the field by the students. It is then entered onto an online database where teachers can access their results and can gain access to data throughout their watershed. For a log in and password to the data base contact Laura Hines at laura.hines@usu.edu
or call (435) 797-2580.
Teachers are encouraged to bring their students together in the spring and share what they have learned about their watershed. In the Bear River Watershes, the sharing of data has turned into a public event called the Bear River Celebration. Biology, history, poetry, math, chemistry, and any other discipline can be taught through the protocol.
